Calendars: A calendar of special events, themes, visitors and fieldtrips will be sent home once a month. A calendar of the school year is posted in the handbook for information on days that school is not in session.

Child Drop off and Pick up: Please accompany your child inside the centre. At no time may your child be dropped off and left unattended outside the school.

Your child will only be allowed to leave with the authorized people on your registration form. The supervisor must be notified in advance if you require any other person to remove your child from the pre-school.

The supervisor will not release your child to any person who appears to be intoxicated or is under the age of twelve.

Snacks: Please provide your child with nutritious snacks. Juice will be supplied.

Birthdays: Feel free to bring cupcakes or other small treats for the children as part of our celebration of your child's birthday at school.

Discipline: Understanding, responsible guidance is necessary for children to develop to their full potential in learning and life skills. The goal of discipline is to help children increase their self-control and self-esteem.
Responsible, caring guidance includes:
~setting firm, reasonable limits
~being consistent
~modeling appropriate behavior
~being flexible according to differing situations and the personality and age of individual children
~helping children to channel emotions and express them in appropriate ways
~fostering problem solving skills
~giving choices whenever possible

Time out may be used if a child needs a few minutes in a quiet area to regain self-control.
A change of space or play materials may also be necessary to help children stop inappropriate behaviors.

Clothing and Footwear: The children should wear play clothes to school. We will keep some spare clothes at the school in case of accidents. Shoes or slippers must be worn at all times in accordance with fire regulations. Slippers maybe left at the school during the winter. Please have all your child's clothing labelled with her or his name.

Health: The children will wash their hands before eating and cooking and after using the washroom.
Parents are required to notify the supervisor when their child has contracted any contagious illness or infestation.

Children should not attend school when they are ill, have a fever, severe cold or cough or are too fatigued to participate in the daily activities.
Parents or a child's emergency contacts will be telephoned to pick up a child who becomes ill at school. Medical assistance may be sought if the supervisor considers it necessary and the child's parents and emergency contacts cannot be reached.

Medication: Medication will only be administered by the
supervisor when it is in the original container and has been
prescribed by a physician during the previous two weeks.
Non-prescription medication will only be administered with written instructions explicitly for your child from your doctor.
The dosage, and frequency of dosage of any medication given to a child must be authorized by a parent in writing.

Emergencies: In the event of a serious accident, the child's
parents will be immediately notified. A physician and/or
ambulance may be contacted first, depending on the severity of the child's injuries.

Safety: Fire drills will take place once a month. The children will be taught safety rules and shown the fire safety procedures.

Fieldtrips: A parental consent form must be signed before your child will be taken on a fieldtrip.
Parent drivers, who help drive on fieldtrips, must have at least one million dollar third party liability on their vehicle.
Parent drivers must ensure each child is securely restrained in a seatbelt and is seated where there is NO air bag.
Parent drivers and /or volunteers must chaperone the children for the entire trip, until we are back inside the pre-school.

Conferences: Parent -Teacher conferences are not
regularly scheduled. However, a formal conference can be
arranged at a parent's request.

Parents and Teachers: Parents are their children's first teachers and their constant guide though life. Parents have an important part in our school and in their child's education. An open exchange of information, opinions and concerns between parents and teachers will allow us to provide the best possible pre-school education for your child. Parents are welcome in the school at any time.
